In 2000 me and My Better Half (MBH) quit, retired, sold businesses, stopped going to work and started a new life. The only idea that we had to work with was that our new life was not be centered on our careers or increasing our wealth. MBH was retiring from his own medical practice (more details later) and I ran my own medical equipment company. Most advice seemed to indicate that we would be very unhappy, bored and back hard at work in a few months…. a year at the most. I had a feeling that this would not be the case.
The last 8 years have been amazing. We became nomadic, living on a Caribbean island, in the Sierra Nevada mountains (California), in Catalonia (the best bit of Spain), Western Australia and many other spots along the way. We have learnt to wind surf and play golf (not at the same time), are learning to surf, ride motorcycles and gave up drinking along the way.
The site is a work in progress, a reflection of what makes me tick, laugh and sometimes cry.
Enjoy.
Ok, so after so many times of asking you for the name of your blog, writing it down on one of those little bits of paper that also includes a short shopping list and when the next episode of “Meerkat Manor” will run, and losing it AGAIN, I was way too embarassed to ask another time. Imagine my delight when you added it to your most recent Book Club memo! So now I am HERE, IN PERSON and looking forward to catching up on all things Judith and living vicariously through your exotic sojourn whilst I struggle with excuses to get out of my jammies! [that's American speak for Pajamas and does not indicate that I am currently wollowing in Orange Marmalade, although that sounds nice too!] CAN’T WAIT!
LOVE YA, Love to your BH! Linda
Bbbs La Bmba Let me know when you are up for Marmalade wallowing and I will be right there.
Love Thursdays Girl
I came across you blog, by accident, following a home exchange link.
It’s great that you changed your life. We did the same thing about 3-4 years ago. Although we are living a less nomadic life then you are but we’re doing it with children in tow.
We also started a home exchange website, http://www.1sthomeexchange.com. We loved this holiday alternative and wanted to share it with others. We now have 15,000+ members in 130 countries.
Best of luck in your travels and home exchanges!
